Password organizers satisfy demand for convenience

With a password manager tool, users no longer have to compromise their online security to gain convenience.

One of the most common reasons why people fail to protect their accounts with sufficiently strong passwords is the hassle of remembering dozens of complex combinations. But with a password manager tool, users no longer have to compromise their online security to gain convenience.

The fundamental characteristics of a strong password have been well-publicized. Most people know that they should be using at least eight characters comprised of letters, numbers and symbols. However, this awareness has not translated into improved online security outcomes.

"Inconvenience makes people do strange things," noted ZDNet staff writer Michael Lee in his latest column. "Inconvenience is the reason why no one wants to comply with strict password-complexity policies, or follow a number of so-called best practices."

This phenomenon has been seen at all levels and has been the root cause of everything from massive healthcare data breaches to hacked personal email accounts. But instead of chastising users for their laziness, password organizer solutions acknowledge end-user concerns.

By helping people generate and store passwords of adequate strength, these valuable tools take the hassle out of password protection and can go a long way toward bolstering the online security stance of their users.
