Internet growth and you

Internet-Growth-10th-AnnivDo you look at online security the same way you did 10 years ago – or even 2 years ago?

Remember when you were little and your parents would put a book on your head as you stood in the door frame of the kitchen (stretching your neck as much as you could) to mark off how you were growing? They were making a record of your physical growth, but over the years, your mind was also growing as you learned new things. The mental growth was there, but it didn’t show up in the lines on the doorframe.

As part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the team at StaySafeOnline have prepared a great infographic (see below) showing the unbelievable growth of the Internet over just the past 10 years.

The numbers are staggering: EVERYONE – it seems – is actively using the Internet.

Of course, if everyone is using the Internet, then you’re going to find lots of bad guys, too. For example, we see that phishing attacks around the world increased 87% from 2011/12 to 2012/13!

But, just like the lines on the doorframe didn’t show that you were also getting smarter, the graphic doesn’t show your personal growth in terms of responsible and secure behavior online. Do you still look at online security the same way you did 10 years ago – or even 2 years ago?

Do you click on every email attachment and link you get – no matter how suspicious it might be?

Are you still using the names of your pets as passwords?

Do you use the same password for several of your online accounts?

This October, add that extra dimension to your personal growth by getting Sticky Password and being safe online.

Sticky Password is proud to be a National Cyber Security Awareness Month Champion!
