V7.07.66 causes MMC and Snagit hangs

V7.07.66 causes MMC and Snagit hangs

Postby siliconman01 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 10:07 am

This applies to Windows 8.1.1 x64 Professional with SP V7.0.7.66.

SP V7.0.7.66 interferes with SnagIt 12.1 and causes SnagIt Editor to hang in memory and it cannot be closed except via Task Manager.

SP causes Microsoft Management Console hangs when working with the Task Scheduler, Event Viewer and other MS utilities. The hang shows up in the Event Viewer as Event Id: 1002.

"The program mmc.exe version 6.3.9600.16384 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: dc
Start Time: 01cf9ea59e3ba1f2
Termination Time: 4294967295
Application Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe
Report Id: 1d9042d6-0a9a-11e4-822a-f8b156c72456
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:"

When this occurs, I have to exit SP from RAM, manually close the hung mmc.exe and restart whichever utility I was working with. Then I can successfully work with the mmc.exe utility without further problems.

This problem is occurring on different Windows 8.1.1 x64 Professional computers that I own. So it does not appear to me that it is machine dependent.

Hi,

have you tried to add the executive file of this app to the list of Ignored apps in Sticky Password?

Best regards,

Yes, I have attempted to add all the executibles to the Ignored apps list; however, it does not resolve the conflict on either SnagIt 12.1 nor the various MMC elements (Task Scheduler, Event Viewer) of Windows 8.1.1 x64.

Have you added the file TechSmith SnagIt 12.exe to ignored apps list?

I have the following files in the "Ignored Apps" list

mmc.exe
eventvwr.exe
regedit.exe
taskmgr.exe
Snagit32.exe
dotNetFx40_Full_Setup.exe

SnagItEditor.exe cannot be added to the Ignored Apps list because SP says it is not supported and is automatically ignored. However, SnagItEditior.exe is the program that hangs and will not exit if SP is in memory....locked or unlocked.

The Task Scheduler cannot be added to the Ignored Apps list because it is an .msc file and these cannot be added to the ignore list. Event Viewer and Task Scheduler are the two MMC files that hang as well.

Try to turn off UIAutomation feature to check the issue. (Menu->Settings->Miscellaneous->Set checkbox "Turn off UIAutomation (Autofill will not work with IEx64)")
