Environment Variables in Runlink

Environment Variables in Runlink

Postby steyen » Wed Jul 15, 2009 11:00 pm

Hello Sticky Password,

is there a way to support system environment variables to run applications?

I ask because i set a variable to the root of my usb stick, where i start my SP4 and all my application like filezilla and others as well. so when the variable will be used i can my applications with the run link.
For now i tested it and i wont do the job.

Thanks for your answers

Steyen

p.s. maybe relative paths will do the job as well, if they where easier to implement.

Hello Steyen

Could you send me an example of the variables you need?

Thank you.

Hello Ondrej,

thanks for your interest. The Example is quite simple, all i need is the functionality within the RunLink of Applications to support variables like %WINDIR% or %SYSTEM% like they do the job in each command box (CMD).
When i plug in my USB-Stick, then i register a variable like the above where the value is the root of my stick, so i am able to use this from other programs to open applications .
The other way with the relative paths is, i think the operating path of Portable Sticky Password is the USB-Drive (i think so). And then i can navigate with relative paths from there to my application from the stick like the scenario below:
Sticky Password is started from USB (f:\) so the working directory is f\:Sticky Password .
Now i want to save as RunLink the relative Path from the working directory to my Application i.e. Filezilla.
RunLink: .\..\PortableApps\Internet\FileZilla\filezilla.exe

I hope my english is not to bad, so you understand what i tried to tell you.

Thanks for your effort

Ondrej - it's probably not a matter of "which environment variables you need" - because there are a lot of them - and then there are ones the user defines for their own purpose. Best just to evaluate these expressions when and where they come up.

For example here is a list of some that Microsoft are using at the moment - and no doubt the list will continue to grow as the need arrives.

Thanks for your effort, this option would be very nice for all users which start multiple software from they 're usb stick.

Best Regards
