Today’s the day!

We know that you’ve been telling yourself that you were going to backup your documents and all those memories: important files, and photos of the kids and the cute pet pictures, not to mention your awesome music and video archives – everything on your computer. (You might not have thought that Monday was going to be the day, but it is. 🙂 ) So, hop to it.

Two weeks ago, a friend of ours called to tell us that the hard drive on her computer crashed. Uff. That’s no fun.

Lucky thing you back everything up regularly – right!?

Silence on the other end of the line.

Actually, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been because her last backup to her external drive had been a month ago, so she only lost a month of data.

Even if you’ve never had a problem with a hard drive or a computer crash, it’s just common sense to back up your stuff. Computer memory is cheap and there’s absolutely no reason to NOT do it – unless you believe that unicorns on rainbows are protecting your computer.

Make sure your memories and your important documents are backed up and safe in case something goes wrong with your computer. It doesn’t matter where you backup stuff, so choose a method that you are comfortable with. It can be an external hard drive or even a small USB stick, or a cloud service like Dropbox, just as long as it’s on a different device. (Just to be clear, a second copy of everything on the same computer isn’t going to be much help if your computer crashes.)

If not now, when? If not you, who?

Check out the World Backup Day website, where you can join the folks who are pledging their commitment to backing up on Facebook and Twitter.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to backup some data.
