How to export your data from Safari and Apple Passwords

You can move your passwords from Apple Passwords to Sticky Password in different ways, depending on which device you use.

Prefer direct import on mobile

Note: If you use Apple Passwords on your iPhone or iPad, the direct import option is the easiest and fastest way to move your passwords to Sticky Password. It handles everything for you, so there’s no need to fuss with export files.

If you want to import your data using a file, the simplest option is to use the Passwords app on Mac. Apple says the Passwords app can export one password or all passwords to a file.

If you use Safari to sign in to websites on your Apple devices, those saved passwords are stored in Apple Passwords. That means if you want to export your Safari passwords for import into Sticky Password, you should use Apple’s password export options.

Mac: Export from the Passwords app

  1. Open the Passwords app on your Mac.
  2. To export one account, choose File -> Export Selected Password to File.
  3. To export all accounts, choose File -> Export All Passwords to File.
  4. Click Export Password or Export Passwords.
  5. Choose where to save the exported file.

Apple notes that you can’t export Wi-Fi passwords, passwords shared with a group unless you created the group, or access to Sign in with Apple accounts.

Apple also provides password export on iPhone and iPad. In Settings -> Apps -> Safari -> Export, select Passwords, deselect the other items, save the export to Downloads, and tap Done. Apple says the export is saved as a .csv file in Downloads.

Official Apple guides:

Windows

Apple provides Windows documentation for iCloud Passwords, including setup and password management, but Apple’s published export instructions for moving passwords out are for Mac, iPhone, and iPad rather than Windows.

If you need an export file for Sticky Password, complete the export on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad, then import that file into Sticky Password on the device you want to use.

Official Apple guides:

Android

Apple’s official password-export instructions are published for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. If you use Android, start the export on one of those Apple devices, then import the exported file into Sticky Password on your destination device.

Keep your exported file safe

Exported password files are not encrypted. Anyone who can access the file can read your saved data.

For your security:

  • Export only on a device you trust.
  • Import the file into Sticky Password right away.
  • Delete the exported file and any temporary copies after the import is complete.

Next step

After exporting your passwords, return to Sticky Password and follow the import instructions for your platform.
