Sticky Password announces its support for World Password Day 2017, the cybersecurity awareness initiative led by Intel.
May 3, 2017 – Sticky Password today announced its commitment to World Password Day’s “Layer Up Your Login” internet safety and security initiative to empower individuals to better protect their online accounts by adding a layer to their passwords. The campaign calls for every person active on the web to bolster their online accounts by enabling the strongest authentication tools available so everyone can enjoy greater peace of mind knowing their online accounts are more secure.
In 2016 identity fraud hit an all-time high, with an estimated $16 billion stolen from 15.4 million U.S. consumers due to identity fraud. Usernames and passwords simply are not enough to secure online accounts. Millions of Americans have had their digital accounts hacked because of stolen credentials or weak logins, but many are not using widely available, simple technologies to better secure their online accounts.
World Password Day was created to empower people to better protect their online accounts.
“Today it’s clear a password is not enough to protect online accounts,” said Jennifer Larson, who leads Intel’s Cybersecurity Education program. Instead, Intel recommends adding protective layers – sometimes called multi-factor authentication to passwords. “Simply adding the requirement of a fingerprint or other secure factor to your login provides powerful protection — even in cases where current passwords are leaked or stolen.”
Intel, a sponsor of World Password Day, said the campaign is a coordinated effort to increase public awareness of strong cybersecurity habits. It is a worldwide effort involving industry leaders and organizations that highlights the importance of cybersecurity awareness and education.
